Sustainability

In Turkey; The textile and ready-made clothing sector is one of the most important sectors in terms of export figures, employment values and production amounts and accounts for approximately 22% of export revenues.

Approximately 2 million people work in the textile and ready-made clothing industry. In parallel with the size of the sector, important environmental problems arise in our country and in the world. One of the most commonly used fibers in  textile production is cotton. However, the chemicals used in cotton production and excessive water consumption have also caused an increase in ecological problems.

A significant portion of the pesticides used in the world are used in cotton production, and therefore the demand for "organic cotton", which is suggested as an alternative to cotton, is increasing in the world and in our country. The aim of this research is to determine the environmental effects that occur during traditional cotton production and organic cotton production for sustainable production in textiles.

The use and production of organic cotton, its processes and its effects today were investigated.Organic cotton production overlaps with concepts such as ecological production and sustainability, which have become prominent in the world in recent years. Organic cotton production is very important for the future of the textile industry, which is one of the indispensable parts of our economic life.
